With offices in London and writers from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland and arguably France, Stone Skin Press is a decidedly post-national operation. Yet since Creative Director Robin D. Laws calls Hogtown home, a nice swath of The Lion and the Aardvark’s 70 contributors happen to reside in the Greater Toronto Area. Thanks to the good offices of the Rowers Pub Reading Series, we’ll be celebrating that fact on Tuesday May 14th at 8pm, in the cozy, craft beer loving confines of the Victory Café in Mirvish Village (Bloor / Bathurst.) (via Stone Skin Press » Blog Archive » Lion and the Aardvark Toronto Launch Event)
I illustrated the interior of this book, and will thus be appearing with many other local literary figures (of various stripes!) at this launch tomorrow.
I AM A MONSTER, 2013
Part of my body of work for my OCADU undergrad thesis (more details can be found here). Photographed around Toronto, Canada.
Copies of these prints are available for purchase.
this is perfection. original artist, you are fantastic.
AH! I didn’t see this at GradEx but it’s really wonderful!
What is best in life? A good bike is best in life. I love bikes, guys. I wish someone would make snake lugs. I love conan, guys.
My entry to stefie’s super sweet zine called WE AINT GOT TIME TO BLEED, previously known as SECOND AMENDMENT. This is gonna be a pretty radical zine and you should all get it! Wouldn’t you love to have a good colour print of Thulsa Doom popping a wicked fixie wheelie with a snake cult AK-47?
The Collected By Crom is coming! For reals! I’m so excited, guys! So, how can you get it?
Well, if you are attending VanCAF (May 25-26, Vancouver BC), I will have a limited run of saddle-stapled convention copies with all of the comics and the paper doll! And I’ll be on hand to sketch and sign and make Conan references with you all! OH man I can’t wait!
But for the sweet, sweet perfect-bound copy with all the unpublished bonus content and all the silly pinups, you’ll want to preorder here (it comes in dead tree OR in pdf!) All preorders placed in May will get sketches, either in the physical books or in a .jpg in your inbox if you’re a digital distribution kinda person!
This book will be launching on July 5th so until then watch this space for bonus content, sneak peeks and updates! And thanks so much for all the encouragement and support and enthusiasm and fellow nerdiness along the way - it’s been amazing.
I’ve been working hard on the collected book, and some of the most fun stuff is the cover design! Here’s the inset painting - the whole cover I’ll save for some big news coming VERY SOON.
HO BOY IS IT EXCITING. Watch bycrom.tumblr.com for news!
I’m super pumped, chuffed, and infinitely grateful for this awesome news:
By Crom v1 will be on sale at TCAF this weekend! My excellent friends at Friendship Edition have offered me a slot on their zine shelf for Conan’s advice. They’ve got an amazing array of beautiful zines, smart comics and assorted art objects, prints, stickers, pins, oh my god. I’ve been watching them get ready for weeks now and believe me, it’ll be a booth worth browsing thoroughly.
So yeah, if you’re in the Toronto area be sure to stop by the reference library to check out all the awesome, because of all the festivals I’ve been to, TCAF is one of the most memorable every year.
I won’t be at the table myself, sadly, as I am, excitingly, attending the Pop Culture Association of Canada’s 2013 conference (with By Crom!) starting this Thursday. If you’re going to be there I will also have zines on hand, and a stack of free postcards as well - seek me out!
I AM SO EXCITED. What a weekend this is gonna be!
This upcoming weekend is TCAF kids! I’ll be letting you know all about it as soon as I know all about it. In the mean time, LET ME TELL YOU about some COMICS VERSES GAMES adventures happening in association with TCAF and my buddies at Bento Miso!
First off, check out the COMICS VERSES GAMES 2 Gallery Opening Night at Bento Miso 862 Richmond Street West (across from Trinity Bellwoods, down a narrow alley off of Richmond!) There will be pretty art there and nice people.
Next up, all through TCAF weekend, Bento Miso is hosting Bit Bazaar. With over 20 independent game developers and studios exhibiting, Bit Bazaar will be a unique celebration of the art and craft of indie games in the tradition of zine fairs. as a DMG member and fan I’ll have a few zines and mystery objects available for purchase, plus you may in fact have the opportunity to play Cuddlegeddon, my 2-player abandonware make-out pong game. Which, based on the screengrabs on the Bit Bazaar page, will be one of the lamest games there because the stuff from the core exhibitors looks damn sexy,
Both of these events are free! And let me tell you, if you are a shy person (or even not,) Bento Miso is the place to hang out and get high fives from strangers who are excited to engage you in conversation about shared interests.
Hi there new followers! Thanks to io9.com, geeksaresexy.net, and those excellent people on metafilter and reddit for sending a veritable internet horde my way this past weekend, it’s been crazy exciting hearing from all of you!
Thanks to everyone who hit up my store - all the non-digital orders for you guys should be shipping out early next week, so keep an eye out for my “it’s in the mail!” email then.
Thanks as well to everyone who’s linked or reblogged or shared as well, guys, I’m just completely overwhelmed by the attention these past few days have brought!
This is an exciting month as I prep a big shiny collection of all the comics and man, am I ever pumped to have you all along for the ride!
Clearly, this is what is best in life, by Crom!
